Surrey has been one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 12 years in a row

THE City of Surrey has been named one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for the 12th consecutive year. Canada’s Top Employers for Young People is an editorial competition presented by MediaCorp Canada Inc. that recognizes employers offering the nation’s best workplaces and programs for young people starting their careers. Employers are evaluated by MediaCorp editors based on the committed programs they have in place to attract and retain younger workers.

“The ongoing recognition of the City of Surrey as a Top Employer for Young People is a testament to the City’s commitment to young workers and the success of future generations,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “It’s important to hire individuals who are in the early stages of their careers. They will be the next generation of staff who will carry on the work of building and advancing Surrey into the future.”

Fourteen per cent of the City’s full-time employees are under the age of 30 and many opportunities are available through temporary, part-time and auxiliary positions. The City provides many valuable opportunities to help young people grow in their career including:

* A summer recruitment program offering more than 100 temporary summer job opportunities such as Day Camp Leaders, Program Leaders, Summer Labourers, and Property Tax Clerks.

* Co-op and practicum opportunities for post-secondary students in areas across the City.

* Extensive training and development opportunities that support staff growth.
