The Surrey International Marathon Society is pleased to announce the line-up of exciting cultural artists who will be performing along the route and at the finish line for the 2nd annual Surrey International World Music Marathon, taking place September 29, 2013.

This innovative marathon will feature ‘Cultural Music Miles’ with live colourful musical performances highlighting each mile along the marathon route. World music performers and cultural organizations will showcase their art, music, costumes and dance to celebrate Surrey’s multicultural heritage and encourage runners as they make their way through the streets of Surrey.

A total of 34 performance stations encompassing 18 distinct cultures will line the course, supported by hundreds of volunteers and race enthusiasts. Surrey Marathon Society Chair, Elizabeth Model notes, “The new course has provided even more stations and performance areas for our local cultural groups and artists to entertain the runners. We’re looking forward to a wonderful mix of singers, dancers, drummers and entertainers, who will animate the course as our runners attempt to set new course records”.

The list of performers includes a myriad of multicultural performers including Jamaica’s Phase III Steel Band; Philippine performers Ed & Salve plus La Riva Dance Group; VanCity Bhangra Team with dhol drummers and sitar players; Lion Dancers and traditional performers from China; New Caledonian Pipe Band and Irish Dancers; Korean Traditional Arts Society drummers, dancers and musicians; African Stages; Caribbean performers Mukatona; Latin American sounds from Edgar Manuela and De La Terra; Japanese Taiko drummers; Belly Dancers; Palestinian Al Qods dancers; Lebanese recording artist Nadina; Elvis impersonators and many more.

The main stage at the finish line will include renowned acrobatic performers Ache Brasil and the amazing Langley Ukulele Ensemble, plus many others. Live music and dance performances will take place all morning at the race site and will help enhance the race experience for all participants.
