A road closure remains in effect on Saturday as the Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team has been called in to investigate a hit-and-run that has left one person deceased.
On January 27 at approximately 1:43 a.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian-involved hit-and-run. Officers located the pedestrian several blocks away and he was declared deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was struck in the roadway north on University Drive and 104 Avenue. Witnesses described seeing a red Ford Mustang strike the pedestrian and leave the scene without stopping to render assistance.
Surrey RCMP were able to quickly locate the suspect vehicle and its three occupants. The three occupants were taken into police custody where they remain as the investigation unfolds. Investigators are working to identify the deceased who is an adult male.
As investigators remained on the scene on Saturday morning, three separate road closures had remained in effect. Only one remains in effect at this time – the area of 109 Avenue and 132 Street, which is expected to be closed for a few more hours. Motorists are asked to avoid this area and take alternate routes.
Investigators are asking any potential witnesses to come forward if they were travelling in these areas on Saturday morning between 1:40 a.m. and 1:50 a.m. – northbound on University Drive, westbound on 108 Avenue and northbound on 132 Street.
