ON Monday (October 9), at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Surrey RCMP received several 911 calls reporting that a cyclist had been struck in the 1600-block of 64th Avenue, Surrey. An eastbound cyclist had been struck from behind by an eastbound vehicle. The cyclist landed in a ditch after being thrown off his bicycle.
The vehicle continued eastbound. Officers of the Surrey RCMP General Duty and Traffic services attended to the scene. Witnesses from the scene were able to supply information that led police to a residence a short distance away from the accident. The suspected driver was located and taken into custody. The cyclist was transported to hospital in serious but non-life threatening condition.
The investigation into this incident is presently in the early stages and still under investigation. Speed, alcohol or drugs have not been ruled out as contributing factors in this collision, police said.
Surrey RCMP are seeking the assistance of the public, and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or observed the suspect vehicle driving either before or after the collision to call them at 604-599-0502 or to call Crime Stoppers.
