THE New Westminster Police Department is asking residents in Sapperton to be vigilant about thefts occurring from vehicles.

Since June 22, the New Westminster Police Department has received four complaints of thefts of bike racks, or in one instance, theft of a roof rack, from vehicles. Three of the thefts occurred in the underground parking lot of Royal Columbian Hospital and one theft was in the immediate vicinity.

“While all the bike racks were empty at the time of these thefts, we are encouraging all residents to remove their bike racks from their vehicles when they are not in use,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “As always, we are encouraging all residents to call 9-1-1 if they hear or see any suspicious activity.”
