Three arrested at Burnaby pipeline demonstration

ON Monday at around 8:30 a.m., Burnaby RCMP attended the 8700-block of Government Street in response to a report of three demonstrators in tents near a Trans Mountain worksite. It was determined that the demonstrators were inside the injunction area and impeding work.

The three individuals, two females and one male, refused to leave the area and were arrested for criminal contempt of court. They were released on site to appear in court at a later date.

Burnaby RCMP said they are an impartial party in demonstrations related to the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. Demonstrators have a right to lawful, peaceful and safe protest and companies have a right to complete their work, they noted.

Burnaby RCMP added they are working hard to ensure that these rights are protected and that all parties and the public are kept safe.

Burnaby RCMP has published a document with questions and answers related to the demonstrations here.
