Vancouver Police Deputy Chief decries level of violence to which officers are exposed

VANCOUVER Police Deputy Chief Howard Chow on Saturday decried the level of violence his officers continue to be exposed to daily.

He said that when officers tried to arrest a suspect on a Downtown Eastside call involving a suspect who had bearsprayed and struck a victim multiple times with a hatchet, one officer was punched and another officer, who is 6-foot tall and weighs 220 lb, was lifted up and bodyslammed to the sidewalk.
