Vancouver Police Deputy Chief Fiona Wilson is next Victoria Police Chief

FIONA Wilson, one of three Deputy Chief Constables with the Vancouver Police Department, is the next Chief Constable of the Victoria Police Department (VicPD).

The Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board announced the unanimous decision on Thursday.

Wilson brings more than 26 years of diverse, strategic, and operational experience to VicPD. Her career includes leadership roles overseeing the VPD Investigation Division, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, Court and Detention Services, Federal Serious and Organized Crime, Major Crimes, and Professional Standards.

Micayla Hayes, Chair of the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board said: “She brings a wealth of experience, strong values, and a deep commitment to public service. Throughout her career she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and the ability to guide complex, community-focused policing initiatives. Deputy Chief Wilson stood out among a rich field of candidates and impressed us with her vision for supporting both VicPD sworn members and civilian professionals while strengthening trust and safety in the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt.”

“I am honoured to be selected as the next Chief Constable of the VicPD,” said Wilson. “I am deeply committed to serving the communities of Victoria and Esquimalt with transparency, integrity, and compassion. I believe in the power of collaborative policing, grounded in service to both the public and our dedicated sworn members and civilian professionals. Together, we will continue building a safer, more inclusive, and respectful environment for all.”

Wilson is recognized for her ability to lead progressive change in complex environments, while balancing community safety and wellbeing with financial acumen and operational effectiveness.

“Deputy Chief Wilson has led progressive change throughout her policing career, grounded in community needs, fiscal responsibility and critical values,” said Esquimalt Mayor and VicPD Board member Barbara Desjardins.

“Deputy Chief Wilson is an impressive leader with incredible skills well suited to the demands of Victoria and Esquimalt,” noted Victoria Mayor and VicPD Board member Marianne Alto. “She is the right choice for our communities now.”

Wilson is married and has three children. She will begin her role as Chief Constable on August 15 with a two-week transition alongside Chief Del Manak prior to his retirement on August 31.
