VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC 0 – LA GALAXY 0

Whitecaps FC, LA Galaxy share points in early Western Conference test

VANCOUVER: Vancouver Whitecaps FC drew LA Galaxy 0-0 in front of another sellout crowd in an early Western Conference test at BC Place on Saturday evening.

The ‘Caps dictated much of the action, with Felipe and Efrain Juárez creating chances from the midfield, and Alphonso Davies and Cristian Techera breaking down the Galaxy defence from each wing. However, neither team would be able to find the net, but a draw would be enough for the ‘Caps to move into a tie atop of the Western Conference table with seven points after four matches.

The result also extended the ‘Caps home undefeated record to a club MLS record 11 matches.

LA got their chances in the second half, the closest one coming on the counterattack when goalkeeper David Bingham found Emmanuel Boateng on the break, but ‘Caps keeper Stefan Marinovic pressured the speedy forward into putting the ball wide of the target in the 57th minute.

Kei Kamara, back after missing the ‘Caps lone loss of the young season last week, had an opportunity in the 71st minute when he juggled the ball to evade a pair of Galaxy defenders, but his incredible effort went wide of the right post.

Marinovic, who made one save on the evening, made an acrobatic dive to thwart a cross in the 87th minute, putting the finishing touches on the clean sheet.

Whitecaps FC now head out to MAPFRE Stadium next Saturday, March 31 for a clash against MLS-best Columbus Crew SC. Kickoff is at 12 p.m. PT on CTV, TSN4/5 and TSN Radio 1040.

The ‘Caps are back home on Friday, April 13 when they host expansion side Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) at BC Place. Visit whitecapsfc.com for ticket information.
