Vehicle stolen with dog inside in Port Moody

A vehicle was stolen with a dog inside on October 7 in Port Moody.

Just after 8 a.m. on October 7, a motorist parked his vehicle in the 2600-block of St. Johns Street, then briefly stepped out. An unknown man wearing a white hoodie entered the idling S.U.V. The suspect then fled in the vehicle westbound with the victim’s pet dog on board.

With help from the victim, the vehicle was tracked to south Coquitlam where Port Moody Police officers located the blue Hyundai Santa Fe S.U.V. parked and unoccupied.

It is believed the dog was abandoned in the same area of Coquitlam, as a Good Samaritan located the dog on a busy road and brought it to a nearby animal hospital. Fortunately, the dog was unharmed from the incident and has since been reunited with her family.

“The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination as we work to identify the suspect,” says Constable Sam Zacharias. “We have also conducted video canvasses and are looking to speak with any other potential witnesses or anyone who has relevant dash camera footage.”
