THE New Westminster Police Department is investigating an early morning break-and-enter that resulted in a panicked call to 9-1-1. According to the caller, at approximately 4:30 a.m., she awoke to hearing her patio door sliding open. When she got closer to the patio door, she saw the leg of a person step into her home. At that moment, she screamed and the person fled.
Police rushed to the 2000-block of 11th Street to ensure the woman’s safety and to search for the suspect.
“It’s hard to imagine waking up to find someone trying to enter your home,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We’re thankful the resident reacted quickly and called 9-1-1, and we’ll be working to ensure whoever did this is identified.”
The investigation is ongoing.
Police are reminding everyone to look out for one another, report suspicious activity, and take simple steps to keep homes secure. Anyone who has noticed suspicious behavior around their property and has not filed a formal police report is asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
