BC Green Party MLAs Furstenau and Olsen acclaimed in their respective ridings

SONIA Furstenau and Adam Olsen have been officially acclaimed as the BC Green Party candidates for Cowichan Valley and Saanich North and the Islands, respectively. Olsen and Furstenau were first elected as MLAs for their respective ridings  in 2017.

“I am so excited to serve the people of Cowichan Valley for a second term,” said Furstenau, who was elected Leader of the BC Greens on September 14.

“In the past three and a half years I have worked with the community on important accomplishments like securing funding to build a new school and new hospital, mitigating the impacts of the opioid crisis, finding funding to start work on raising the weir in Lake Cowichan, and supporting families struggling with the child welfare system. Every day as an MLA I was reminded of what makes the Cowichan Valley so special: its community.”

Adam Olsen added that he is reenergized to be back in his riding.

“It has been an honour to serve the people of Saanich North and the Islands,” said Olsen.

“While I’m disappointed that the NDP has called an unnecessary election a year early, I am more committed than ever to working on the issues that matter most to this community. Our campaign will be focussing on continuing to build on the foundation of strong relationships in the Salish Sea, community governance, education, and making sure everyone in our riding has a family doctor.”

“I’m so delighted to have Adam running with me in this election,” said Furstenau. “He approaches his work as an MLA with kindness, integrity, and a good sense of humour. He has proven himself to be a capable legislator, championing important reforms on issues like affordable rental housing and protecting wild salmon. I know the people of Saanich North and the Island will continue to be well-served by him.”
