Canadian Eyesight Global’s free eye health clinic in Surrey a resounding success

Canadian Eyesight GlobalTHE Canadian Eyesight Global organized a very successful free eye health clinic last Sunday at Surrey’s Dashmesh Darbar Gurudwara Sahib with more than 186 patients having their eyes screened. Major eye problems were referred to the specialist eye surgeons for further treatment. Free eye drops were given to the patients.

The eye screening service to the patients is not covered by the BC Medical Plan, however, this service is provided absolutely free by Canadian Eyesight Global. The free eye clinic was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Surrey-Guildford and Rotary Club of Burnaby.

A team of eminent surgeons and doctors including Dr. David R.S. Neima, Dr. Robin Cottle, Dr.Warren Whitford, Dr. Paul Denton and their associates participated. The volunteers included Gary Thorne, President, Rotary Club of Surrey-Guildford, and members Art Claxton, Garry Sass, Dianna Sears, and Lynn Spence, as well as Satwant Ginder (Sangha) and Kulwant Kaur Sekhon, members of Rotary Club of Burnaby, who all worked tirelessly all day.

Other dedicated volunteers who helped were Navneet Singh, Vicki Singh, Himmuth Singh, Jupna Kaur, Chanan Deo, Dr. Amrit Kaur, Aman Kaur, Darshan Mann, Gurmel Singh Dhaliwal, Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains, Vicky Singh, Saroop Kaur Jubbal, Anup Singh Jubbal, President, Canadian Eyesight Global.

Canadian Eyesight Global thamked Gian Singh Gill, President, Avtar Singh Johal, Treasurer, Gianai Mukhtiar Singh and the administration of Dashmesh Darbar Gurudwara Sahib as well as all dedicated volunteers for their cooperation and generous support.

Canadian Eyesight Global, formerly Project Eyesight-India, has successfully sponsored and completed over 100,000 free cataract surgeries and over 500,000 people have been treated for avoidable blindness in various parts of Punjab and other parts of India since 1989. It has been organizing free eye health clinics in Greater Vancouver since 2004 and will be celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.
