THE Canadian Hindu Chamber of Commerce said on Monday that it is deeply saddened to report that the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton, Alberta, was vandalized during the early morning hours of July 22.
“The act of vandalism is not only an attack on a physical structure but also an affront to the sentiments of the Hindu community and the principles of respect and tolerance that our society holds dear,” the chamber said.
It added: “We condemn this senseless act of hate and the rising tide of Hinduphobia across Canada. These incidents are deeply troubling and have no place in our multicultural and inclusive society. It is imperative that more is done to protect the Hindu community and ensure their safety and security.
“We urge the Canadian government and local authorities to take immediate and effective measures to combat Hinduphobia and protect religious institutions and communities from such acts of violence and intolerance. It is essential for the government to address these issues with the urgency they deserve and to foster a climate of mutual respect and understanding among all communities.”
