THE City of Delta is seeking feedback from local heritage property owners to share their input on the Heritage Conservation Grant program, exploring how it can better meet the needs of the community. Designed to offer financial assistance for owners of properties on Delta’s Heritage Inventory, the City is looking to increase uptake in the program and ensure the preservation of local history.

The Heritage Conservation Grant, funded through a levy on building permits, provides up to $30,000 per property per year, covering up to 50 percent of eligible capital costs. At the regular Council meeting on January 25, staff were directed to report back on the status of the Heritage Conservation Grant fund and to propose strategies and investments for community heritage projects.

“As Delta continues to grow, Delta Council remains committed to preserving the history of our community,” said Delta Mayor George Harvie on Monday. “Recognizing and honouring our past is an essential part of building a better future. We encourage heritage property owners to share their ideas on how we can make improvements to the Heritage Conservation Grant to address their specific needs and support the restoration of Delta’s historic properties.”

To be eligible, a property must be listed in Delta’s Heritage Inventory and added to the Heritage Registry. Additionally, a Heritage Conservation Covenant must be registered on title for 10 years. A list of Delta’s Heritage Inventory can be viewed here or by entering the address on DeltaMap.

Residents are encouraged to complete the feedback form by Friday, May 23.
