TRUST Georgia Straight Editor Charlie Smith to say it as it is!
In “Video: Inauguration Day—a poem on the 2014 Vancouver election” on his online paper at www.straight.com, Smith bluntly states:
Here’s the truth that few will report
Anglo names get the most voters’ support
White faces and name recognition
Count most with the older generation
Chinese surnames help some people win
But Philippine names, they go to the dustbin
South Asian surnames almost always lose
Leaving Indian candidates with a long-lasting bruise
Then in the video at the bottom he explains the facts behind the rap – and mentions that The VOICE Editor Rattan Mall is one who is not afraid to tackle this issue even as others shy away from it.
