VANCOUVER Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) has added new lifesaving equipment to its hazardous materials response toolkit, thanks to a $50,000 donation from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation of Canada.
The new equipment will help firefighters quickly and accurately identify hazardous substances during an emergency, improving response times and safety for both the public and first responders.
“Every minute matters when dealing with unknown substances,” said Deputy Chief Ken Gemmill, Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, on Tuesday. “This technology allows our crews to identify risk faster and make informed decisions that protect lives and the environment.”
The new tool also includes a built-in simulation system that allows for ongoing hands-on training without the cost of expendable materials, ensuring VFRS firefighters remain prepared for real-world incidents.
