CITIZENSHIP and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar, India, on January 11. The two discussed the strong people-to-people ties and growing economic opportunities between Canada and India, agreed to explore new ways of working together to promote security and combat terrorism, and looked forward to Modi’s first official visit to Canada later in 2015.
Alexander was joined by Dr. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Status of Women, Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Patrick Brown, MP for Barrie, and Devinder Shory, MP for Calgary Northeast. The meeting occurred on the margins of the Vibrant Gujurat conference, in which Canada is participating for the third consecutive year.
