The magician will appear at theLadner Pioneer Library and Tsawwassen Library on Friday, July 12. The second Summer Reading Club performer is the poet Tiffany Stone! Join Tiffany for poems and rhymes about flaming Flamingos, baaaad animals and rainbow coloured clothes. A dissatisfied Frog finds a library book and decides to change his life! Join the rollicking fun as Webster McRibbit sets out on a hilarious quest to become a prince. He has some surprising and unexpected adventures involving broccoli and a toilet brush before realizing the joyfulness of just being himself. Do you like comics, video games, anime, TV shows, movies or all of the above? Welcome to Fandom Club! Join us on Tuesday, July 23 from 2 pm – 3 pm at the Ladner Pioneer Library for button-making, comic-creating and discussion of all things geeky! Ages 8+.
On Thursday, July 25 from 2:30 pm – 4 pm at the Tsawwassen Library, take the STEAM Challenge at Battle of the Bots and tackle a room full of balloons and Sphero Bots. Create your bot, race against the clock for the most balloons burst and get your name on the leader board. Appropriate for ages 8 – 13.
Be a Bollywood star! Experience the magic and joy of dance and storytelling as Karima Essa performs Bollywood dance. It’s never too early to begin learning logic and coding! At aMAZEing Cubetto on Wednesday, July 31 from 3 pm – 4 pm, the friendly wooden robot Cubetto wants to go on an adventure and needs your help to get through a winding maze at the Tsawwassen Library Cubetto teaches the basics of computer programming through stories and acitivities. For children 3 – 8 but families are welcome to participate together. Screen free!
Are you batty about bats? Did you know bats are not flying rats and help humans by eating lots of insects? Join us at the George Mackie Library on Wednesday, July 31 from 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm for Batty about Bats?, a presentation by the “Got Bats?” initiative (a network of community bat projects across BC). The network works to protect the increase the number of known bat roost sites. The program will start with a presentation and discussion at the library. The participants can then choose to join the presenter at Tannery Park – 10761 Dyke Road, Surrey – for a walk using echolocation tools to view foraging bats. Please bring a sweater or jacket and a flashlight.
