Man arrested after two people threatened with gun in Downtown Eastside

A suspect has been arrested and charged for allegedly pointing what appeared to be a gun at a woman and then, moments later, at a man, in the Downtown Eastside on Thursday.

Two women were exiting a ride-share vehicle near Powell Street and Heatley Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on April 18, when a stranger pointed what appeared to be a gun at one of their heads, and made a comment about her being a Vancouver Police officer.

The women, who are not police officers, got away from the suspect and called 9-1-1.

The suspect then assaulted and pointed the gun at a man who was sitting at a nearby bus stop before leaving the area.

As a precaution, police deployed additional armed officers at all VPD buildings while officers searched for the suspect.

Officers working in the Downtown Eastside located the suspect walking near Hastings and Gore streets at 3:45 p.m. and arrested him.

Korey Muskett, 31, has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of using an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, and one count of assault.

Muskett remains in custody until his next court appearance.
