RIDGE Meadows RCMP on Monday announced that they had arrested a man after he engaged in an assault which included jumping onto a moving vehicle.
On January 25, at around 3:45 p.m., police received multiple complaints regarding a man jumping on the roof of a Grey Mazda 3 near the intersection of 210th Street and Laity Street. The investigation led police to identify a female driver of the vehicle and the male suspect. Both parties are known to each other.
“This incident was shared on social media before police received the video evidence, which caused much speculation,” said Constable Julie Klaussner. “We understand in this day and age the allure of social media, but we want to remind the public that these are real people. Please consider the perspective of the victim and the fact that what you share, or when you share, may have an impact on the investigation’s outcome. There is always more to the before, during and after of an incident and not just a short video clip you see on social media.”
A 30-year-old Maple Ridge man, who is known to police, was arrested for assault and mischief. He was scheduled to appear on Monday in BC Provincial Court in Port Coquitlam.
