Premier Christy Clark has released the following statement in
recognition of Eid ul-Fitr:
“This week, Muslims throughout British Columbia mark the end of Ramadan
with Eid ul-Fitr – the Festivity of Breaking the Fast. Eid began with the
sighting of the new moon, which signals the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
holy month of fasting. For a lunar month, Muslims fast during daylight
hours, which teaches patience, self-discipline, empathy, charity and
faith.
“During Eid, families help their communities by practising good deeds and
giving to charities. They celebrate by gathering with friends and family
to enjoy a special meal – their first daytime meal in a month. Their
faith and dedication is inspiring.
“On behalf of all British Columbians, I wish Muslim families a very
joyous celebration.
“Eid Mubarak!”
