Surrey man arrested for assaulting passengers on bus in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD Police say that on Sunday, April 24 at 4:18 p.m., they responded to reports of an intoxicated, assaultive passenger on a BC Transit Bus which was proceeding westbound on Highway 1 at Whatcom Road. While police were en route, passengers on the bus restrained the suspect until police arrived.

The suspect continued to resist when police arrived and additional officers were required to assist in his arrest. In total, four passengers were assaulted during the incident. All received minor injuries.

Forty-five-year-old David Allen Lucas of Surrey has now been charged with assault with a weapon and three counts of assault. He has been released from custody on a series of court-ordered conditions.

“The AbbyPD and BC Transit personnel continue to work together to ensure that the transit system within the Abbotsford area remains safe for the public. Incidents like this are rare.  We are grateful for the actions of these citizens who intervened, likely preventing further passengers from being injured,” said Constable Paul Walker on Tuesday.

Anyone who hasn’t spoken to the police who witnessed this incident is asked to contact Abbotsford Police investigators at 604-859-5225.
