SURREY School District Trustee Garry Thind and Laura Lukey, Manager of Business Development, received a donation of school supplies from Narinder Singh, Founder and President of Guru Nanak Food Bank (GNFB), and Neeraj Walia, Secretary of GNFB, on behalf of GNFB.

Lukey wrote the following letter of appreciation on Tuesday to Guru Nanak Food Bank:

“On behalf of the Surrey School District, I would like to express our deepest appreciation for your organization’s generous donation of school supplies from your School Supply Donation Drive held on August 27th. It is through the invaluable contributions of organizations and businesses like yours that we can offer our students every possible opportunity for success in the classroom.
“Surrey is the largest school district in BC with 132 schools and nearly 82,000 students. We take pride in being one of the fastest-growing school districts in Canada. Surrey’s geographic expanse is three times that of Vancouver, and it is projected to have a higher population than Vancouver in the coming years. 36 of our schools are complex schools and many more are borderline, existing in low socio-economic neighborhoods but receiving no targeted inner-city funding. By providing school supplies to our learners, we ensure that they are well-equipped for their educational journey.
“Our dedicated school staff, teachers and support workers deeply appreciate your commitment to providing brand new school supplies to our students. We will ensure that all donated supplies are distributed to our students in need within our school communities. “Once again, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering generosity. It is donors like you who empower us to continue our essential work and drive positive change within our district.”
