THE 32nd annual Surrey RCMP Basketball Classic high school tournament gets underway on Sunday, January 14.

This popular event created in partnership with the Surrey School District is one of the largest basketball tournaments in the province, and showcases the incredible skills and team spirit of student athletes from high schools and junior high schools across the city.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for youth to come together through sport, as well as a positive community event which we have been proud to be a part of for over 30 years,” says Superintendent Harm Dosange, Community Services Officer for the Surrey RCMP and a participant in the 1993 Classic. “The Basketball Classic also provides a chance for students to secure scholarships to help support their future aspirations.”

Qualifying games will be held at the Langley Events Centre on January 14, with the championship games scheduled for January 20 at Enver Creek Secondary, the home of last year’s senior tournament winners, the Enver Creek Cougars. The time-honoured tradition of pitting RCMP officers against coaches in search of basketball glory will also take place on the day of the championship games.
