ON December 13 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a New Westminster Police Department officer heard screaming inside a drug store near the New Westminster SkyTrain Station bus loop. The officer located a suspect near the Canada Post counter who was yelling at staff.

The suspect did not comply with instructions from officers and proceeded to kick and bite police. A staff member shared that they had been assaulted prior to police attending the scene.

“Customer service staff deserve a safe working environment,” said Sgt. Justine Thom. “If anyone is making you feel unsafe, know that you can call 9-1-1 and an officer will be there right away.”
