ON February 10 the New Westminster Police Department asked witnesses to come forward following an assault and robbery that occurred on Alexander Street on February 8. On February 15, police made an arrest when they were called to Alexander Street for a report of two people having a verbal altercation and one person brandishing a knife. When police arrived on scene, patrol officers recognized one of the men as the suspect in the assault and robbery that occurred on February 8.
Nicholas Gelaude, 33, of New Westminster has been charged with robbery and assault while carrying, using, or threatening to use a weapon or imitation weapon.
“Thanks to patrol officers who were observant and recognized this individual as being involved in an additional police investigation,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday. “We’re pleased that Mr. Gelaude was arrested without incident and we want to thank the public for their patience as we deal with these types of investigations.”
The second person arrested on February 15 is facing charges for failing to comply with the conditions of a probation order.
