Transit Police arrest two repeat sexual assault suspects

METRO Vancouver Transit Police says that thanks to the active role members of the public took in transit safety, they were recently able to arrest two repeat sexual assault suspects, and will be recommending multiple charges to be laid to the BC Prosecution Service.

One suspect committed his alleged crimes in Vancouver in July, and the other in Surrey between April and July.

Transit Police say that reducing sexual offences is an operational priority and they work to hold all offenders accountable. In this case, the individuals who reported the offences that they experienced played a pivotal role by making the arrests possible, and interrupted the suspects’ alleged pattern of criminal behaviour. When crimes such as these are reported quickly, Transit Police detectives have more resources available to investigate crime and support transit users.

“Transit Police understand that due to the nature of the crime, reporting a sexual offence can be extremely difficult. Our team is here to support victims of crime, at the onset and throughout the investigation,” said Sgt. Dustin Szakacs.

Anyone who experiences or witnesses sexual harassment, unwanted touching, or indecent acts on transit is encouraged to report it. Your report will be taken seriously and you will be treated with respect, says Transit Police. Call 604.515.8300 or text 87.77.77 to file a report with them. Always call 911 in an emergency.
