SURREY mayoral candidate Vikram Bjawa said Wednesday that he will use the old Surrey City Hall as a homeless shelter.

When told that there was a lease agreement between the Province and the City of Surrey, which allows Crown counsel to relocate from the Surrey courthouse to the old city hall, Bajwa said that they would be occupying only about 3,000 square metres of space. The rest of the space could be used for the homeless. Bajwa said that the building had more than 40,000 sq ft of space available.

Bajwa said that Surrey First has failed to identify a permanent lodging for the homeless whose numbers were increasing in Surrey. He said the poor residents were sleeping in the cold and had nowhere to go in winter.HEADLINES CIVIC SURREY Vikram Bajwa
