Woman allegedly threatens New Westminster security guard with stun baton

AT approximately 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 17, a woman entered a downtown area liquor store and gathered several bottles of wine. The woman allegedly produced a stun baton and sparked it in the direction of the security guard as she left the store without paying for the wine. The staff called 9-1-1 and New Westminster Police Department patrol officers searched the area for the woman.

The woman is described as approximately 5’8” tall with long brown hair and thin build. She was wearing a beige trench coat with fur lining, a blue and white sweater, orange scarf, black leather pants, and black and white runners and carrying a blue and brown bag.

“This is the second incident in less than two weeks where an electroshock weapon has been produced and sparked to threaten staff at New Westminster establishments,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “Both these incidents highlight the lack of respect for business owners and their employees, and the recklessness of these individuals. We were fortunate to make an arrest in our first file and we will continue to gather evidence in an effort to identify this other suspect.”
