Youth charged for threats to burn down Port Coquitlam residence

COQUITLAM RCMP on Wednesday announced charge approval against a youth for alleged threats to burn down a Port Coquitlam residence.

Following a police investigation into a May 17 incident which occurred in Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam RCMP have received charge approval for three alleged offences against the 15-year-old youth.

“After an investigation by the Coquitlam RCMP, beginning with frontline uniformed General Duty members and continuing with the Coquitlam RCMP General Investigation Section, investigators conducted a thorough examination of evidence, resulting in the identification and arrest of the alleged suspect, who does not reside in the Tri-Cities area,“ said Media Relations Officer Cpl. John Graham.

On August 4, the BC Prosecution Service approved three counts against the youth, who cannot be publicly named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The approved charges against the youth are:

* Mischief under $5,000;
* Uttering threats; and
* Breach of a disposition order.

“This isolated incident involved alleged threats to burn down a residence in a highly populated Port Coquitlam neighbourhood. Coquitlam RCMP strive to ensure that our citizens and neighborhoods are safe,” said Graham. “When a criminal incident arises, we utilize all resources in our commitment to ensure public safety.”

The youth was released from custody and is bound by numerous protective conditions.
