BC Liberals: CBAs are harming local businesses and communities

GREG Kyllo, BC Liberal MLA for Shuswap Greg Kyllo, says that the NDP government’s mis-named Community Benefit Agreements are locking out the majority of B.C. workers and contractors from bidding on public infrastructure projects and could add as much as $4.8 billion to the cost of public infrastructure projects.

Kyllo highlighted how many public infrastructure projects are incurring hundreds of millions of dollars in cost overruns, including the Illecillewaet and Kicking Horse Canyon projects, the Pattullo Bridge replacement and the Broadway Skytrain expansion.

Kyllo also cited the Salmon Arm West project in his riding, which has been shrunk from a 6.1-kilometre project to just 3.3 kilometres under a CBA while the per-kilometre cost of the project has doubled from $26.6 million in 2016 to $55.9 million in 2020.
