Fire investigators determine overnight fire in Surrey’s City Centre not suspicious

SURREY Fire Service fire investigators have advised police that the overnight fire that damaged several businesses in a City Centre strip mall on Monday is not considered suspicious.
The individual initially arrested as a suspect has since been released from custody.
The fire scene has been turned over to property owners and business representatives.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Monday, two SPS frontline officers were on patrol in Surrey’s City Centre neighbourhood when they noticed smoke and a burning smell coming from a small strip mall on the southwest corner or 108 Avenue and City Parkway. As officers stopped to investigate the source of the smoke, they located a man leaving a business and arrested him.
Surrey Fire Service responded to the fire, which resulted in overnight road closures on 108 Avenue.
No one was injured in the fire and both Surrey Fire Service and SPS fire investigators attended to evaluate the damage to any businesses and determine the cause of the fire.
