SURREY: If your lawn is looking a little brown, you might be tempted to pull out the sprinkler a little more often than you should.

But doing that could cost you, big time.

Jas Rehal with the City of Surrey says they haven’t handed out any fines, but “we’ve issued 67 formal warning, and we’ve had a lot of discussions with home owners.” he tells us.

“We’re providing information on what the water regulations are, what the restrictions are, why the restrictions are in place, and… how we can meet the water needs within those restrictions,” he explains.

If you don’t heed the warnings, you can be fined $250.

In Coquitlam, two people have been fined for breaking the water rules, while more than 275 people have received formal warnings.
