Highway 1 eastbound closed at Port Mann Bridge due to serious collision

UPDATE 4 P.M.

All eastbound lanes of Highway 1 are now openĀ 

 

AT approximately 10:20 a.m. on Monday, police and emergency services responded to a serious collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 on Port Mann Bridge.

Early indications are that a disabled pickup truck was rear-ended by a delivery-type vehicle, seriously injuring the driver of the pickup truck who was outside of the vehicle. The driver of the delivery vehicle was also injured and had to be extricated by emergency crews.

BC Highway Patrol Burnaby has conduct of the investigation and has activated the Criminal Collision Investigation Team. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is also engaged on this file.

Currently all eastbound through lanes are closed until further notice as police conduct their investigation. All eastbound traffic is being routed via the 152 Street lanes to Surrey which re-connect with Highway 1 south of the Fraser River.

Police remind all motorists that if you have vehicle trouble, pull off the road or out of travel lanes to a point of safety if at all possible and never exit your vehicle on the travel portion of a roadway or bridge.
