Investigations into potential contraventions of Local Elections Campaign Financing Act

ELECTIONS BC announced on Thursday that it is investigating 12 elector organizations (civic political parties) for potential contraventions of the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act (LECFA) during the 2022 General Local Elections.

The organizations are A Better City Vancouver (ABC Vancouver) of Vancouver, BCA – Burnaby Citizens Association of Burnaby, Civic Non-Partisan Association (NPA) of Vancouver, Contract With Langley Association of Langley, Forward Together of Vancouver, Progress Vancouver of Vancouver, Richmond Community Coalition of Richmond, Safe Surrey Coalition Society of Surrey, Spirit Alliance of Kelowna, Surrey First Electors Society of Surrey, United Surrey of Surrey, and Vision Vancouver Elector Association of Vancouver.

Elections BC said that these investigations are related to one or more of the following potential contraventions:

* accepting prohibited contributions

* failing to deal with prohibited contributions in accordance with LECFA, or

* sponsoring election advertising without an authorization statement.

The investigations will determine whether contraventions have occurred or not and Elections BC will share the results of these investigations once they conclude. At this point no contraventions have been confirmed.
