Jagit Khangura, 44, of Port Coquitlam drowns near Pitt Meadows

HEADLINES DROWNINGTHE BC Coroners Service on Tuesday said Jagit Khangura, 44, of Port Coquitlam died following a swimming incident near Pitt Meadows on Monday (August 4).

Khangura was swimming with family members in the Alouette River near the Silver Bridge when, about 5:50 p.m., he was observed to be in trouble in the water and was not able to reach the shore.

Family members called 911 and emergency services responded immediately. About 8:30 p.m., Khangura was located on the river bottom and recovered by a diver from the Canadian Coast Guard. Khangura was deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are continuing to investigate this death.
