On Monday (Aug 12), NDP Leader Tom Mulcair named Jinny Sims, MP for Newton-North Delta to the NDP Shadow Cabinet as the critic for Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
“I am looking forward to serving in this new role,” said Sims. “Short-sighted Conservative cuts to social programs have hurt Canadian families, and I will work hard to hold the government to account.”
Sims moves to the Human Resources and Skills Development file from her previous post as critic for Immigration. The move will continue to put Sims face-to-face with Minister Jason Kenney, the former Minister for Immigration.
“I am proud to serve alongside a strong NDP Shadow Cabinet that will hold Stephen Harper’s Conservatives to account,” said Sims. “While the Conservatives are still dogged by the same old scandals, New Democrats are focused on getting results for Canadians.”
