NDP slams Falcon for continuing to pander to climate change-denying Conservatives

THE NDP on Tuesday slammed BC United Leader Kevin Falcon for coming out against CleanBC, government’s plan to fight climate change that has been effectively reducing emissions in British Columbia.

It said that followed Falcon’s newfound opposition to the price on carbon pollution, which Falcon has called one of his proudest moments in government.

The NDP pointed out that both positions come on the heels of Conservative Leader John Rustad’s opposition to the carbon tax. Rustad refuses to acknowledge that climate change is real and human-caused, and has long argued that reducing carbon pollution is harmful.

It noted that BC’s economy has been growing as emissions have been declining:

  • B.C.’s GDP growth since 2017 is the highest in Canada among large provinces (14.4%).
  • B.C.’s unemployment rate is among the lowest in Canada.
  • BC has added 47,400 so far this year, including 6,600 private sector jobs last month
  • Last year’s job creation is three times higher than when Falcon was Finance Minister.

British Columbians deserve a government that will fight climate change and grow the economy, the NDP asserted.
