THE City of Delta on Wednesday announced the completion of the upgraded Ferry Road Boat Launch, which is now open to the public.
The newly constructed boat launch incorporates a longer overall ramp and extended float, which improve the structure‘s function outside of high tide and increase boat capacity. The project also included dredging work to remove sediment on the approach to the ramp, allowing increased access during low tide conditions.
“The boat launch at Ferry Road is an essential piece of community infrastructure,” said Delta Mayor George V. Harvie. “By upgrading the functionality of the launch, we allow boaters the opportunity to continue to enjoy Delta’s natural playground for years to come. I look forward to seeing the community embrace the new ramp to its full capacity as we approach boating season.”
Work on the project took place through the fall and early winter to limit the impact to local fish habitat and minimize disruption during peak boating season. Over the next few weeks, temporary tires along the sides of the new structure will be replaced with permanent mounted rubber fenders.
