Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke’s intriguing ‘update on policing’

SURREY Mayor Brenda Locke issued an intriguing “Update on Policing” on Wednesday that stated: “The City is in discussions with the province, however, I will not be sharing any details at this time.”

She added: “Otherwise, there has been no change in the legal action the City of Surrey is taking against the province. A court date has been set for April 29 and our legal team continues to prepare the case.”

The Province is reported to have offered $110 million more in municipal policing transition costs to the City.

Meanwhile, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) said on Tuesday that it had deployed over 200 officers into policing operations. Also, the total number of SPS Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) graduates was now 41. SPS also has 16 recruit officers currently in training at the JIBC, with another 12 recruits scheduled to begin training in May.
