Surrey RCMP suppressing news. Orders from Mayor Brenda Locke?

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke (right) with Surrey RCMP Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards: Shameful sabotaging of Surrey Police Service.

WHY is Surrey RCMP suppressing bad news?

It is evidently to paint a false picture of security in the city — and residents are quite sure that it is part of Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke’s agenda as she desperately tries every trick in the book to hold on to the Mounties.

News about shootings and armed carjackings are apparently NOT important enough for Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards to inform Surrey residents.

However, catching shoplifters during the holiday season merited press release after press release!

Last month, Surrey RCMP suppressed the news about shots being fired at the residence of the son of a temple president in the early morning of Wednesday, December 27 in the 14900-block of 80 Avenue.

Only after The VOICE demanded information about the incident did they issue a press release that then became big news in all media.

Now, after an armed carjacking on Sunday ended up with the stolen vehicle and an RCMP vehicle crashing near the Surrey-Langley border, Surrey RCMP had yet to issue a press release on Monday afternoon. They just chose to answer emails from some media about the incident.

(UPDATE: The press release finally came AFTER this write-up!)

Shame on you, Edwards!

How can Surrey residents have any confidence in you — or your buddy, Locke?

REMEMBER the notorious attempt of Surrey RCMP to suppress news about a series of break-and-enters back in August?

It was ONLY when Global BC reported on some of the incidents that Surrey RCMP finally announced that their Property Crime Target Team had been investigating multiple break-and-enters to businesses in the South Surrey area.

There had been EIGHT – I repeat: EIGHT — reports of break-and-enters / attempted break-and-enters to South Surrey businesses in the month of August!
