Surrey road closure due to fatal collision in Whalley (Update: roads re-opened)

UPDATE:

Surrey RCMP announced at 6:45 p.m. that roads in the area of Highway 17 and Old Yale Road had been re-opened following a fatal collision early Friday afternoon.

 

A road closure in in effect in Whalley due to a fatal collision, Surrey RCMP announced on Friday afternoon.

On May 26 at 12:26 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision in the area of Highway 17 and Old Yale Road. The collision involved two vehicles. Despite the efforts of first responders, one person has succumbed to their injuries and two people have been transported to hospital.

Highway 17 and Old Yale Road will be closed in all directions until further notice.

Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collison Investigating Team (CCIT) and Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team (ICARS) are investigating the cause of this collision. Police will be conducting a full investigation into the cause of the collision, including what role speed or other driving behaviours may have played in this collision.
