Suspect injured, arrested after police-involved shooting in East Vancouver

A suspect is in custody and receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a police-involved shooting in East Vancouver on Saturday night.

Vancouver Police responded at 8:45 p.m., after a witness called 9-1-1 to report that someone was breaking into a building near Gore Avenue and Railway Street.

While responding, a VPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the area. The driver allegedly failed to stop and drove to the area of Commercial Drive and East 2nd Avenue, where shots were fired.

A 52-year-old man, who was armed with a gun, was injured in the interaction. He was taken to hospital where he remains in custody and under guard.

No police officers were physically injured. A police service dog received medical treatment and is expected to recover.

Due to the serious injury to the suspect, VPD has notified the Independent Investigations Office of B.C.
