SINCE 2006, Vivek Educational Foundation of Canada (Vivek Canada) has been committed to alleviating poverty and approaching rural development projects in India with an integrated and grass-roots approach.
Dr. Harmesh Sidher along with a group of friends, mostly expats, founded Vivek Canada in 2006. The goal was to improve access to education and opportunities for youth in remote areas of India’s U.P. state – one of the areas with the worst rates of literacy in the country. “We go where nobody else goes,” says Sidher.
Now, Vivek Canada has begun a new local program for youth and seniors, Dawn to Dusk.
The Dawn to Dusk Program will:
* promote volunteerism among seniors and youth
* pair seniors with youth throughout the project, to build a sense of community and provide senior’s the ability to share their culture and knowledge with others
* promote well-being and support social inclusion of South Asian seniors
Vivek Canada’s Dawn to Dusk Program will feature a series of events and workshops.
The first Dawn to Dusk event will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Lakshmi Narayan Temple at 8321 140 Street (Shanti Niketan), Surrey.
Participants will meet once a month from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025 and only need to register once. Registration for senior participants is now closed, however, registration for youth participants is still open.
Limited spots are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Youth (between the ages of 15 and 25) are invited to register online: https://www.vivekcanada.org/dawn-to-dusk
