IN January, the New Westminster Police Department Street Crime Unit investigated multiple break-and-enters in the city. That same month a search warrant was executed at a home in Burnaby and a suspect was arrested. In February, 16 charges were approved against 38-year-old Lindsay Ellis of Burnaby.
These charges included: break-and-enter, theft of mail, theft, possession of break in instruments, identify theft, possessing identity documents, possession of credit cards, possession of stolen property, and possession of forged documents. In July, Ms. Ellis entered a guilty plea and has been sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
“We have an exceptional team who work on behalf of victims to bring repeat offenders to justice,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver on Wednesday. “The NWPD will make every effort to hold people who commit crime accountable for their actions.”
The Street Crime Unit operates within the Support Services Division and focuses on property crime and drug investigations. Through surveillance, undercover work, and plainclothes operations, this unit identifies and responds to crime trends and supports major investigations, including break-ins and narcotics cases.
