THE BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is canvassing for witnesses and dashcam footage related to the November 25, 2023 incident in Surrey in which a tractor rolled over after colliding with a police vehicle on the on-ramp to Highway 1 on 176th Street at approximately 12:35 p.m. It is also looking for pre-collision driving behaviour and post-collision footage.
Police said that even though the IIO BC investigation was recently concluded, there is a separate ongoing investigation into the actions of the driver of the tractor by BC Highway Patrol – South Coast. It added that further details regarding the driver cannot be released at this time.
If you are a witness who has not yet spoken to police or if you have footage that has not yet been provided to police, you are requested to contact BC Highway Patrol at E_BCHP_Media@rcmp-grc.gc.ca or call the BC Highway Patrol media team at 778-290-5761.
THE Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC said last week on Friday that it had determined that there were no reasonable grounds to believe any police officer may have committed an offence in connection to the serious harm that one man sustained during the November 25, 2023 motor vehicle incident involving a tractor in Surrey.
The Chief Civilian Director reviewed the evidence – civilian witness statements, forensic scene analysis, video footage, medical records, and police information – in the case.
The IIO BC said that due to concurrent court proceedings related to the incident, its public report will not be released on the IIO website until that process has concluded.
