THE driver of a Ford F150 has died after crashing into a median divider at the Highway 17A exit northbound from Highway 17 eastbound around 6 p.m. on September 20.
Delta Police were on scene shortly after the incident occurred, as was the Delta Fire Department. The jaws-of-life were used to remove the driver from the vehicle. Despite all efforts, the driver died at the scene.
The driver, a Delta man in his 50s, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The cause of the accident has not been determined; it remains under active investigation.
Delta Police’s Traffic Section was on scene until approximately 10 p.m., and re-opened the road at that time.
“We recognize that the road closures caused significant delays for drivers in the area, and we want thank drivers for their patience and understanding,” said Delta Police spokesperson Cris Leykauf. “Police needed to fully document the scene before re-opening the road and officers also wanted to protect the privacy and dignity of the deceased.”
