Bullet holes found in front entrance of Burnaby’s Byrne Creek Secondary School; Coquitlam incident

BURNABY RCMP are investigating after a member of the Byrne Creek Secondary School staff reported they had found bullet holes in the front entrance of the school Monday morning. Officers on scene have confirmed that shots were fired in the area just after midnight on Sunday, October 1 and not when school was in session.

Out of caution, school staff made the decision to evacuate the school this morning.

RCMP members will be on scene throughout the day as the investigation continues and there is no public safety concern at this time.

Tri City News reported that a bullet hole was also found in a ground-floor window of the new Centennial secondary school. But Coquitlam RCMP that did not alert the media said there is no safety risk to staff and students.

Police said that it occurred sometime between Friday and Monday morning.

RCMP could not say whether there was any connection between the Burnaby and Coquitlam incidents.
