Former federal minister Herb Dhaliwal on passing of Aline Chretien

FORMER federal minister Herb Dhaliwal who held several portfolios in Prime Minister Jean Chretien’s cabinet from 1997 to 2003 said on Monday in a statement: “Like so many others, and particularly those who knew her, today I am personally grieving the loss of Aline Chretien – a wonderful friend to me and my family. Madame Chretien was not only an exemplary First Lady of Canada, and an incomparable helpmate to Prime Minister Jean Chretien, she also has been so very kind, genuine and down-to-earth in always being supportive of Canada’s multicultural diversity. Her smile and grace will be greatly missed by Canadians across all Provinces.”

Dhaliwal has kept in close touch with Jean Chretien.
